Your Vanguard benefits are an important piece of your overall Total Rewards package. In addition to your salary, Partnership, retirement benefits, life insurance, and other benefits offerings, Vanguard provides benefits-eligible crew members and their dependents with medical, prescription, dental, and vision coverage options that are superior to the coverage offerings provided by other employers. Benefits cost The cost of each benefit (medical/prescription, dental, and vision) and coverage category (crew member only, crew member with spouse/domestic partner and two children, etc.) is determined annually. In order to determine the cost or 'premium' paid by the crew member, Vanguard establishes a percent of the gross costs that the company will pay. We refer to Vanguard's share of the gross cost as our subsidy.
The difference is then paid by the crew member in the form of paycheck contributions. We also look beyond premiums to the total cost a crew member pays for medical and prescription drugs in a year. To keep your out-of-pocket costs low, the Vanguard medical plans have been designed to offer a generous level of coverage and an annual contribution to a health fund account to offset costs. Vanguard pays the greatest share of the costs. For 2019, Vanguard will continue to subsidize 86% of the premium costs.
This supports our overall contribution strategy to subsidize the medical plans above benchmark, when compared to our corporate peer groups, which subsidize 70% on average.
